Now that gyms and fitness studios are closed, I’ve never wanted to work out more in my life. To be honest, working from home and social distancing is kinda my dream (hi, introvert speaking), but the lack of movement is getting to me. There are only so many walks I can go on, ya know?
For all of us social distancing at the moment (which should be LITERALLY ALL OF US), I’m happy to report that there have never ever been more options for free at-home workouts than right now (at least, I’m pretty sure).
So if you’re out here on the internet like, “Where can I exercise for free?” The answer is: your own home. Clothing brands, apps, and trainers are all offering workouts for free on various digital platforms.
Another fun fact for my friends scheming to get a free gym membership: NOW IS YOUR TIME, PPL. Gyms like Gold’s and Planet Fitness are giving you full access to a range of their at-home workouts and tools that would normally only be available to paying members. Praise be.

If Instagram is your life…
The cult-favorite fitness apparel brand is inviting a variety of trainers to host live classes through Bandier’s Instagram every weekday at 4 PM EST. Each week’s lineup is revealed on Bandier’s Instagram feed on Mondays and includes dance, strength, and boxing classes. To say you won’t get bored with their lineup is an understatement.
The maker of my most worn pair of pants (couldn’t do life without you, align leggings <3) is taking to Instagram to deliver the healthy lifestyle content we all need. They’re launching IG Live yoga classes AND self-care tips and tricks from Lululemon ambassadors (see: people who work out a lot). Check their feed at the beginning of the week to see each week’s schedule.
The activewear brand is doing their part vy offering a variety of yoga, breath work, and meditation classes via Instagram Live. These classes are taught by local teachers and take place Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. PST and Sunday 9 A.M. PST. Please teach me how to breathe, Vuori.
4. Women’s Health magazine
The go-to source for all women’s fitness things, Women’s Health is offering Instagram Live workouts every day from various trainers. Women’s Health is going live every week day, twice a day, with 15- to 40-minute workouts, focusing on full body training, legs and core, HIIT, and arms. In order to see times, workout type, instructor, and equipment needed, follow their feed for access to their schedules for the week. Once you’re done, slide into the DMs of all the trainers to thank them for a life-changing sweat session.
5. Venus Williams
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Venus Williams will be taking to the stage of Instagram Live for daily five-minute workout demos. Venus will pick a new workout move to highlight every day and demonstrate how to properly execute the exercise within the comfort of your own home. Aside from workout demos, Venus will also be discussing the ways she’s staying mentally and physically fit from home. Follow Venus on Instagram and turn on notifications for Live Videos to be notified when she’s starting her demos.
6. Barry’s Bootcamp
Tune into Barry’s Instagram Live daily for a free 20-minute workout led by Barry’s trainers, meaning these are legit tough classes. Checkout the highlight on Barry’s Instagram titled “At Home Sched.” That’ll give you the daily schedules for workouts. Barry’s at home, no equipment needed, and no $38 price tag, sounds…perfect?
7. Rumble Boxing
In lieu of being able to work out in Rumble’s studios, they are taking inspiration from their traditional 45-minute workouts and bringing cardio and bodyweight workouts to an Instagram Live near you. At the beginning of every week, they’ll post a schedule with times and instructors you can expect to sweat with in this equipment-free workout.
Join the FLY Fam on Instagram for daily Precision Training workouts (aka their signature strength class) lasting at about 30 minutes each. Some workouts may require weights, while others will not use any equipment. Take a look at the Flywheel Instagram at the beginning of the week and plan your shower schedule around which class you’re going to take.
If you’re looking for options on options…
1. Centre App
Chris Hemsworth (read: Thor) created a fitness app that’s designed to help you stay healthy and motivated in every aspect of your life, which I need so hard rn. With curated meal plans, fitness classes, and guided meditation sessions, this app is a good place to get after that healthy lifestyle. Class options range from 20 to 40 minutes, offering HIIT, boxing, yoga, strength training, and more, and you can try it all for a six-week free trial if you sign up before March 31.
Now you don’t need to be a ClassPass subscriber in order to reap the benefits of a ClassPass membership (though, it’s def. worth it if you can swing it in ze future). Just create an account (it’s free!) and you’ll have access to more than 2,000 at-home video and audio workout routines. The workouts range from yoga to HIIT and strength training classes and vary in difficulty level. One day you may be feeling like a zen yoga class, and the other you may be looking for a more intense HIIT class. Whatever you fancy, ClassPass got you.
P.volve is a great option for those looking to kick-start a new fitness grind. The app allows you to customize a routine that is perfect for your body. Before you think to skip this because you don’t have a Peloton bike sitting in your spare room (lol to that dream), KEEP READING! Peloton’s on-demand app offers a variety of workouts that can be done with little to no equipment, even without the bike. Peloton is now offering a free 90-day trial of the app, which includes workouts from yoga to strength training, and can be accessed on a phone, TV, tablet, or web browser. You’ll love their trainers, promise!
If you have no equipment…
1. Blink Fitness
The beloved Blink gym has launched “Get Up and Blink!” to help members and non-members alike. Get Up and Blink is streamed through Facebook Live every day at 8 A.M. EST and features a variety of HIIT classes, bodyweight exercises, and stretching routines. So literally roll out of bed onto your floor and get ready for some moves with Blink’s best personal trainers.
2. Planet Fitness
Planet Fitness’s “United We Move” initiative brings the gym’s personal trainers and some celebrity guests (hi, @dougthepug) to your living room/basement/backyard/rooftop (no judgment on where you’re setting up!) You can access the gym’s training sessions via Facebook Live and can stay updated with the upcoming sessions here. The workouts are all 20 minutes or less and are designed for you to stay active and relieve stress. Cut to you sweating for 20 minutes and still finding time to binge-watch Tiger King. Like we said, no judgment!
3. Katie Austen
Katie Austen has devised a free 14-day workout plan on her Get Fit with Katie Austen App titled, “QUARANTONE.” I love pun, Katie. I ALSO love a fitness plan that makes it easy for everyone to follow and is free to use. To start your Quarantone journey, download the Katie Austen App and under the Challenges tab, you’ll see a free in-home video a day, all under 30 minutes.
Tonal, the craziest, coolest workout from home machine (and something I might need to splurge on v. soon) has published free Tonal Yoga classes to their YouTube channel. The classes range from six- to 55-minutes and you can choose from power yoga, yoga basics, or yoga recovery to suit your vibe.
If you’re missing your favorite in-studio classes…
You can do the yoga training of CorePower in your own home by using their CorePower Yoga on Demand online videos. While the normal rate for their on Demand classes is $19.99/month, CorePower is offering access to a variety of yoga sculpt, C1, C2, and meditation videos for free. The “Keep Up Your Practice” videos range from 30- to 60-minutes and will be updated with new workouts on each week.
2. Orange Theory
Everyone’s favorite Orange Theory instructors from around the world are coming right to your homes (not in a creepy way). You can access these 30-minute HIIT workouts on Orange Theory’s website for free right now! Now I’m questioning why I ever left the house to work out before.
Anyone else ever terrified when they hear the word “CrossFit?” Cool. Same. Well now you can finally see what CrossFit is all about from the comfort of your childhood bedroom (or wherever you are). Check out their at-home workout videos on their website and you’ll learn how to properly do those deadlifts, burpees, and toe taps without having to bother the trainer for help in front of the whole class.
4. Burn Boot Camp
While memberships at Burn Boot Camp usually range from $99 to $180, those who sign up now can join for a free 14-day trial here. They will be streaming live workouts every weekday at 9 AM EST until April 3rd to members. Each 45-minute workout will be exactly what you’d get at an in-gym class and will be available on-demand if you miss the livestreams.
If you have an at-home gym…
1. Fhitting Room
You can now access the high intensity training of Fhitting Room classes in your own home with Fhitting Room on Demand. You can choose among a variety of classes, with filter options such as full classes, quick workouts, no equipment, and more. 2. Life Fitness
Anyone else find it hard to motivate yourself to workout with a queue full of Netflix to watch? Life Fitness’ Digital Coach site is the perfect fit for us. Simply follow this URL to sign up, and every day you’ll get a new set of workouts performed by Life Fitness Academy Trainers.
3. Obé Fitness
Whether you’re just starting a fitness journey or you’re an avid fan of working out, you’ll find plenty of options on Obé’s streaming platform. Each fitness class is 28-minutes long and allows you to choose between cardio- and strength-based classes, or yoga and stretch sessions. While normally $27/month, Obé is offering a free month trial to those who sign up meow.
Barrecore is one of the UK’s most beloved barre studios, and soon to be one of your faves with their at-home barre workouts. Barrecore is offering a free two-week trial of their online on-demand workouts where you can sort through the videos by length, difficulty, and more.
5. Wundabar Pilates
First time customers of WundaBar Pilates can access WundaBar on Demand for a free seven-day trial by signing up here. The on-demand classes are typically 30 minutes and taught by WundaBar creator, Amy Jordan (you’ll like her, she’s sweet!). Get ready to strengthen the hell out of that booty.
6. Tone It Up
The TIU girls are here to give everyone free access to their app, which you can download for free from iTunes and Google Play until April 22. Their strength training, HIIT, and yoga routines are perfect to do at home, so you won’t have any trouble transitioning from that 10 A.M. conference call to your 11 A.M. workout.
If you’re motivated by music…
If you’re not already a member of the Y7 Tribe, this is a prime opportunity to join in on the hip-hop yoga classes they offer. Prepare for their lineup announcements every Monday on Instagram for the two Vinyasa Flow classes per week. It’s worth the hype, guys.
2. STRONG by Zumba
No, no no, this isn’t your mom’s Tuesday morning Zumba class (although those are always crowd pleasers.) STRONG by Zumba combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio, and plyometric training to create a music-fueled HIIT workout. Sounds amazing? Right? Well, while you won’t be able to hit up the real classes for these, you can select from a variety of workout videos on the STRONG by Zumba YouTube channel. The videos range from brief one-minute tutorials to 30 minute HIIT workouts.
3. Gold’s AMP
Gold’s Gym offers over 600 video and audio workouts with their AMP app. Never know where to start with an indoor cardio workout? Here’s your app! Don’t have a good playlist that’ll keep you going during your five-mile run? Also the app for you since all workouts come with music. Get 60 days of free workouts and music on the AMP app by signing up with promo code FIT60.
4. 305 Fitness
This Miami-inspired dance class is usually equipped with dark lights, lots of neon, and a DJ in the corner, but you can still sweat it out from your fluorescent kitchen. 305 is offering their signature dance classes via Youtube Live every day at 12 PM and 6 PM EST and will even have some extra classes like a kid-friendly version and meditation videos. You can head to their website for a schedule of each week’s classes. Bonus points for whoever can recreate the club-like vibes of a 305 class in their at-home situation.
If you’re missing the beat-based rhythms of your favorite SoulCycle classes, you can get your fix with dance parties from various instructors on their personal Instagrams. Instructors will also be leading discussions on motivation, hosting meditation classes, and a variety of other topics to keep the Soul community inspired from home.
