30 Jun 2020 — Brenntag Food & Nutrition (Brenntag F&N) has opened its newest Food Application & Development Center (FADC) in Guarulhos, close to São Paulo in Brazil, further increasing its global footprint. The opening marks the 5th FADC for Brenntag F&N in Latin America and the 30th globally, following a flurry of deals in the past months, reinforcing Brenntag’s international presence. The company notes that Brazil represents a significant segment in the Latin American market.
“Brazil is the largest economy in South America and Brenntag Food and Nutrition has a clear intent to keep growing our participation in this market. The Brazilian market presents a clear opportunity for us to leverage on our global know-how to bring new technologies and application expertise for our customers,” Tomás Navarro, Vice President Brenntag F&N Latin America, tells FoodIngredientsFirst.
This new facility will enable the Brenntag F&N team in Brazil to offer its customers even more tailored-made services and individual product development solutions. Areas of the FADC will focus on beverages, bakery, dairy, chocolate & confectionery, sauces, meat, convenience foods, functional foods and food supplements.
The new FADC will bring formulation and application know-how of Brenntag F&N to the region and will particularly support the Brenntag F&N teams in Brazil and the Southern Cone.
“With this new lab, we will be able to bring in all the strength of our global technical network and adapt this knowledge to the particular requirements and preferences of the Brazilian customers. We will be able to strengthen our value proposition towards solutions that integrate our wide product portfolio into finished applications that bring innovation that the Brazilian consumers demand,” adds Navarro.
The FADC is equipped with all necessary state-of-the art equipment and special items such as a photostability and fermentation chamber as well as a texturometer, allowing the team to cater to the individual needs of the customers in order to bring products to the market that address key trends.
“With this new investment in these more challenging times, Brenntag Food and Nutrition shows its commitment to support our customers around the globe, adapting to the local needs while leading with novel applications in line with the market trends,” Navarro concludes.
A flurry of deals
In the past months, Brenntag F&N has entered a number of deals across the world. Earlier in June, Emsland revealed its latest strategic partnership with Brenntag F&N in Russia. The partnership is set to reorganize the Emsland group’s sales structure in Russia. From tomorrow (July 1, 2020), Brenntag will take over the distribution of the Emsland product portfolio for the food industry, including native starches, modified starches, proteins and fibers based on peas and potatoes.
In May, the Brenntag F&N business unit in North America entered a new collaboration with Axiom Foods for the distribution of plant proteins in the US and Canada. Axiom Foods is active in the space of clean label and dietary inclusive ingredients for the food, beverage, nutraceutical and specialty foods industries.
Meanwhile, in April, Brenntag F&N revealed an exclusive deal with French flavor house Mane, with an ambition to expand its distribution partnerships across Europe. The agreement will see Mane’s solutions distributed in Spain, Portugal and Switzerland. This deal was touted by the company as a “great next step” for both companies, which are already working together in Germany, Italy and the Nordics. The new partnership closely followed a similar agreement to expand chocolate Cargill’s distribution in the UK and Ireland.
