(WSIL) — More of us are getting our COVID-19 vaccines. You might have some side effects or you may be concerned about what you might experience.
Local health experts tell us though-not to worry, it’s all completely normal. Southern Seven Health Department says side effects are just your immune system preparing to fight the virus.

Some common vaccine side effects are:
- A sore arm
- Chills
- Fever
- Headache
Normal wait time after you get your shot is 15 minutes. The CDC says if you’ve had an allergic reaction or anaphylaxis you should wait about 30 minutes.
“If we know somebody for sure somebody has anaphylaxis reactions to vaccines we will actually tell them that they need to get their vaccine at a hospital or maybe at their physicians office. Some place where they can be monitored more closely,” he said.
Ryder has some tips to lower your side effect symptoms.
Those include:
- Drink plenty of fluids beforehand
- Dress lightly
- Apply a clean and cool wash cloth to your arm.
- If it’s okay with your doctor, you can take fever reducing medication after your shot.
